Roadmap to neuromorphic computing with emerging technologies

The growing adoption of data-driven applications, such as artificial intelligence (AI), is transforming the way we interact with technology. Currently, the deployment of AI and machine learning tools in previously uncharted domains generates considerable enthusiasm for further research, development, and utilization. These innovative applications often provide effective solutions to complex, longstanding challenges that have remained unresolved for years.

Structure evolution of the interfacial layer of BaTiO₃ thin films during annealing process and related good resistive switching behaviors

BaTiO₃ thin films with different annealing times were grown on LSMO/STO (001) substrates by pulsed laser deposition. An interesting phenomenon of loss-and-reappearance of the interfacial layer in BaTiO₃ was detected in the x-ray diffraction results, and the ordered–unordered–ordered lattice transformation caused by oxygen vacancies’ filling was thought to be the reason.

Properties and influence of magnetic fields on iron particles of anisotropic magnetorheological elastomers

The magnetorheological elastomer (MRE) is an intelligent material whose mechanical properties can be rapidly adjusted under a magnetic flux density. This material’s mechanical properties change due to the interaction between the iron particles inside the material.

Epitaxial growth of β-Ga₂O₃ by hot-wall MOCVD

The hot-wall metalorganic chemical vapor deposition (MOCVD) concept, previously shown to enable superior material quality and high performance devices based on wide bandgap semiconductors, such as Ga(Al)N and SiC, has been applied to the epitaxial growth of β-Ga₂O₃.

Simulation and fabrication of in vitro microfluidic microelectrode array chip for patterned culture and electrophysiological detection of neurons

To enable the detection and modulation of modularized neural networks in vitro, this study proposes a microfluidic microelectrode array chip for the cultivation, compartmentalization, and control of neural cells. The chip was designed based on the specific structure of neurons and the requirements for detection and modulation.

Flexible polydimethylsiloxane pressure sensor with micro-pyramid structures and embedded silver nanowires: A novel application in urinary flow measurement

Flexible pressure sensors are lightweight and highly sensitive, making them suitable for use in small portable devices to achieve precise measurements of tiny forces. This article introduces a low-cost and easy-fabrication strategy for piezoresistive flexible pressure sensors.

Atomic layer deposition of transition metal chalcogenide TaS_x using Ta[N(CH₃)₂]₃[NC(CH₃)₃] precursor and H2S plasma

As a transition metal chalcogenide, tantalum sulfide (⁠TaS_x ⁠) is of interest for semiconductor device applications, for example, as a diffusion barrier in Cu interconnects.

Adhesion layers between piezoelectric and magnetostrictive layers in a MEMS magneto-sensor stack: Influence on the phase transformation of deposited Co/Fe multilayers to magnetostrictive Co_xFe_1−x phase

Magnetoelectric MEMS devices, such as magnetic field sensors, may be composed of a multilayer stack as a magnetostrictive layer, which is mechanically coupled to a piezoelectric film. Good adhesion and a stable rigid interface have to be maintained for such a sensor.

Electronic transport in copper–graphene composites

We investigate electronic transport properties of copper–graphene (Cu–G) composites using a density-functional theory (DFT) framework. Conduction in composites is studied by varying the interfacial distance of copper/graphene/copper (Cu/G/Cu) interface models.

Silicon diffusion in AlN

In this study, we investigate the diffusion of Si donors in AlN. Amorphous Si1-xN_x xsputtered on the surface of bulk AlN with low dislocation density is used as a Si source. The diffusion experiments are conducted through isochronal and isothermal annealing in a protective N₂ atmosphere at temperatures between 1500 and 1700 °C.

Polarization-dependent photoemission electron microscopy for domain imaging of inorganic and molecular materials

Polarization-dependent photoemission electron microscopy (PD-PEEM) exploits spatial variation in the optical selection rules of materials to image domain formation and material organization on the nanoscale.
