Simulation of flow and debris migration in extreme ultraviolet source vessel

Practical extreme ultraviolet (EUV) sources yield the desired 13.5 nm radiation but also generate debris, significantly limiting the lifespan of the collector mirror in lithography. In this study, we explore the role of buffer gas in transporting debris particles within an EUV source vessel using direct numerical simulations.

We focus this study on the use of passive microrheology to characterize HRM heterogeneity, a phenomenon in normal HRM that becomes extreme during cystic fibrosis (CF) disease.

Dynamics and energy harvesting of a flow-induced snapping sheet with nonuniform stiffness distribution

Energy harvesting through periodic snap-through of a buckled sheet has recently gained considerable attention because of its potential applications in energy harvesting in low incoming flow. Although the snapping dynamics of uniform buckled sheets has been extensively studied, the present work focuses on the energy harvesting and dynamics of a nonuniform snapping sheet with both of its ends clamped in a channel flow.

Numerical investigation of cavity dynamics and cavitation-induced vibrations of a flexible hydrofoil

This work investigates the cavitation and fluid–structure interaction characteristics of a flexible NACA0015 hydrofoil. The simulation incorporates the Zwart–Gerber–Belamri cavitation model and two-way fluid–structure interactions. The detached eddy simulation method is employed to analyze the impact of cavitation and elastic deformation on hydrodynamic performance.

Machine learning-augmented fluid dynamics simulations for micromixer educational module

Micromixers play an imperative role in chemical and biomedical systems. Designing compact micromixers for laminar flows owning a low Reynolds number is more challenging than flows with higher turbulence. Machine learning models can enable the optimization of the designs and capabilities of microfluidic systems by receiving input from a training library and producing algorithms that can predict the outcomes prior to the fabrication process to minimize development cost and time.

Development of a dual-flow tissue perfusion device for modeling the gastrointestinal tract–brain axis

Despite the large number of microfluidic devices that have been described over the past decade for the study of tissues and organs, few have become widely adopted. There are many reasons for this lack of adoption, primarily that devices are constructed for a single purpose or because they are highly complex and require relatively expensive investment in facilities and training.

Optofluidic phase modulator based on electrowetting liquid lens

In this paper, a liquid optical phase modulator modified from a cylindrical two-liquid electrowetting liquid lens is presented. A movable optical plane is constructed by fixing a transparent sheet between two immiscible liquids. By using the electrowetting effect to flatten the optical plane along the through-light direction, the length ratio of the two liquids in the through-light direction can be fine-tuned to modify the optical path to realize phase modulation.

Hydrophobic and oleophobic nanopillars reduce viscous drag in slit nanofluidic channels

Nanofluidics exploiting 100 nm nanochannels has developed, and ultrasmall analytical applications in single-molecule level are expected. However, with downscaling the channel size, the required external pressure for driving liquids becomes exceedingly high due to increased fluid resistance and causes a problem to miniaturize a fluidic system.

A magnetic falling-sphere viscometer

We present a falling-sphere viscometer with a magnetized sphere and fluxgate magnetometers continuously measuring the magnetic field produced at the sensor positions by the falling sphere. With a fluid volume of 15 ml and within a few seconds, we directly measure dynamic viscosities in a range between 200 and 3000 cP with a precision of 3%.

Interplay between salt precipitation, corner liquid film flow, and gas–liquid displacement during evaporation in microfluidic pore networks

Visualization experiments with microfluidic pore networks are performed in this work to disclose interplay between salt precipitation, the corner liquid film flow, and gas–liquid displacement during evaporation. Two forms of salt precipitation are revealed: aggregated polycrystalline structures and large bulk crystals. It is found that gas bubbles can be formed because of imbibition of liquid into aggregated polycrystalline structures.

A data-driven physics-informed neural network for predicting the viscosity of nanofluids

Nanofluids have been applied in various fields, such as solar collectors, petroleum engineering, and chemical engineering, due to their superior properties compared to traditional fluids. Among the various thermophysical properties of nanofluids, viscosity plays a critical role in thermal applications involving heat transfer and fluid flow.

A semi-analytical solution of the magnetohydrodynamic blood-based ternary hybrid nanofluid flow over a convectively heated bidirectional stretching surface under velocity slip conditions

This work inspects the thermal transportation of the magnetohydrodynamic Casson trihybrid nanofluid flow over a convectively heated bidirectional elongating sheet. The flow is considered as three dimensional passing over the sheet, which is placed in a porous medium. The effects of thermal radiations and space- and thermal-dependent heat sources are used in energy equations, while magnetic effects are used in momentum equations.
