Voronoi cell analysis: The shapes of particle systems

Many physical systems can be studied as collections of particles embedded in space, often evolving in time. Natural questions arise concerning how to characterize these arrangements—are they ordered or disordered?

Resource Letter MDS-1: Mobile devices and sensors for physics teaching

This Resource Letter provides a guide to the literature on teaching experimental physics using sensors in tablets, smartphones, and some specialized devices. After a general discussion of hardware (sensors) and software (apps), we present resources for experiments using mobile-device sensors in many areas of physics education: mechanics, oscillations and waves, optics, electromagnetism, matter, modern physics, and astronomy.

A Fresh Look at the Young-Laplace Equation and Its Many Applications in Hydrostatics

The Young-Laplace (Y-L) equation relates the pressure difference across the interface of two fluids (such as air and water) to the curvature of the interface. The pressure rises on crossing a convex interface such as a rain drop and falls on crossing a concave interface such as the meniscus of water in a glass capillary.
