High Entropy Alloy

Multi-principal element alloys, often referred to as high-entropy alloys, have attracted considerable attention in recent years. Their inherently complex chemistries confer a vast range of metastable states and multiple levels of chemical order and disorder. This, in turn, provides unprecedented tunability for potential mechanical and functional applications. This special collection aims to showcase the latest advances in the field and inspire exciting new research directions in the study of complex alloys.

Topics covered include, but are not limited to:

  • Thin film synthesis of high entropy alloys (e.g. sputtering, pulsed laser deposition, etc.)
  • Surface treatment of high entropy alloys (e.g. protective coating, laser processing, etc.)
  • Mechanical behaviors of high entropy alloys (e.g. tribological properties, deformation mechanisms, etc.)
  • Characterization of high entropy alloys (e.g. STM/AFM, XPS, S/TEM, AES, etc.)
  • Computational modeling of high entropy alloys (e.g. machine learning potential development, thermodynamics calculations such as CALPHAD, meso-scale modeling, atomistic simulation, first principles methods, etc.)
  • Applications of high entropy alloys in vacuum-related extreme environments (e.g. space, high-temperature, etc.)
