Phase Change Materials: Fundamentals, Innovations, and Applications
Phase change materials, including phase-transition materials and 2D phase change materials, undergo structural phase changes that are accompanied by significant alterations in electrical, optical, and thermal properties. They offer unique functionalities, such as tunability, reconfigurability, reprogrammability, and integrability, making them essential for adaptive photonics, electronics, and optoelectronic devices aimed at the next generation of miniaturized devices and systems. This special topic collection includes but is not limited to papers on (1) phase change mechanisms, (2) synthesis and fabrication strategies, (3) materials theory and modeling, (4) prototypes of phase change devices, (5) neuromorphic and brain-inspired computing, (6) tunable metasurfaces and photonic devices, (7) thermochromic and electrochromic applications, and (8) integration with CMOS and flexible substrates.
