This special topic collection includes papers to be presented during the AVS 71st International Symposium & Exhibition, which will take took place from September 21-26, 2025, in Charlotte, NC. The theme for AVS 71 is was “Engineering the Future: Collaborative Frontiers in Surface, Quantum, and Energy Sciences.”

The Program Chair is was Stephanie Law (Pennsylvania State University) and the Program Vice-Chair is was Mark Losego (Georgia Institute of Technology). Papers include any talks that fall under the regular scope of JVST B.
