Focus and Coverage

APL Engineering Physics is a gold open access journal dedicated to publishing impactful, interdisciplinary research that leverages the principles of physics to tackle complex engineering challenges and pioneering technological innovations. The journal serves as a dynamic platform for studies at the intersection of physics and engineering, focusing on analyses of the physical phenomena driving new technologies and insights into physics-first approaches for engineering solutions across diverse fields.

APL Engineering Physics invites submissions that demonstrate the application of physical principles to solve engineering challenges, with particular interest in research that shows clear potential for practical solutions and real-world impact. The journal’s core areas include, but are not limited to:

  • Nanoscale and Quantum Engineering: Application of quantum phenomena and nanoscale dynamics to materials science, therapeutics, drug delivery, and electronics.
  • Astronautics and Aeronautics: The application of astrophysics and general physics principles to satellite structures, infrastructure in extreme environments, and advanced propulsion technologies.
  • Robotics, Mechatronics, and Automation: Novel applications of thermodynamics, fluid dynamics, and mathematical physics in actuators, control dynamics, swarm behavior, and software engineering.
  • Instrument and Technique Development: Application of fundamental physical principles to the design, development, and engineering of innovative tools, methods, and measurement systems

APL Engineering Physics prioritizes submissions that explore the unique applications of physical principles in engineering, with a particular focus on research that reveals new possibilities for real-world impact or address societal needs.

The journal will offer article types that best serve the Engineering and Physics communities, and a final list will be determined following consultation with the Editor-in-Chief. The journal will open for submissions in 2025.
