Special Issue on the Lattice Boltzmann Method

Submission Deadline: February 15, 2021View Collection

The Lattice Boltzmann Method (LBM) has been a hot topic over the past three decades. Being established at the mesoscopic scale, LBM has been applied in a wide variety of fluid flows. Compared with the Navier-Stokes solvers, LBM may be favored by its kinetic nature, simplicity, and explicitness. Various mathematical models have been developed within the Lattice Boltzmann framework, and numerous applications have been reported, such as those in micro flows, multiphase flows, thermal flows, turbulence flows, and non-Newtonian flows. The LBM is now matured, and a summary and perspective of the method and its development would be timely and necessary. This special issue calls for new contributions in theoretical developments and engineering applications of the LBM and welcomes reports of other Boltzmann equation – based methods. Perspectives and reviews are also welcome.

Topics covered include, but are not limited to:

  • Lattice Boltzmann models
  • Boltzmann equation – based numerical methods
  • Lattice Boltzmann and gas kinetic flux solvers
  • Boundary conditions in LBM
  • Parallelization on large-scale clusters and/or GPU
  • Implementation of LBM on unstructured meshes
  • Moving boundary problems
  • Multiphase and/or multicomponent flows
  • Flows in porous media
  • Micro flows
  • Heat transfer and chemical reactions
  • Non-Newtonian and viscoelastic flows
  • Magnetohydrodynamics
  • Turbulent flows
