Synthesis and Processing of 2D Materials

This Special Topic Collection features articles dedicated to the synthesis, processing, and integration of two-dimensional (2D) materials, including both elemental and compound layered materials. Topics covered include, but are not limited to: chemical vapor deposition, atomic layer deposition, and other thin film growth techniques for 2D materials and heterostructures; epitaxial and van der Waals assembly approaches; transfer and integration methods; surface and interface engineering; doping and functionalization; patterning, etching, and processing strategies for device fabrication; and advanced in situ and ex situ characterization of 2D materials during synthesis. Contributions addressing the challenges of large-area uniformity, defect control, and compatibility with semiconductor platforms are particularly welcome.
Topics covered include, but are not limited to:
- Atomic layer deposition (ALD) and chemical vapor deposition (CVD) of 2D materials
 - Plasma-assisted or laser-based synthesis and patterning
 - Epitaxial growth and van der Waals heterostructure synthesis
 - Transfer techniques and interface engineering

- Doping and functionalization of 2D materials
 - Integration of 2D materials with silicon and other platforms
 - Characterization techniques for growth and interface quality
 - Device applications (e.g., electronics, optoelectronics, sensors
