Celebrating the Contributions of Emeritus Professor Robert (Bob) Dewar
This collection will honor the contributions of Em. Prof. Robert (Bob) Dewar, who passed away unexpectedly in April of 2024. Spanning over more than fifty years, Bob’s career made an indelible impact on the field of theoretical plasma physics and dynamical systems. Among some his most recognized contributions are developing the theory of Magnetohydrodynamics (MHD) ballooning stability in generalized toroidal geometry, the PEST2 stability code, relaxation theory, and, most recently, the theory of multi-region relaxed MHD. Many of these seminal contributions were published in Physics of Plasmas (and Physics of Fluids before that). This special collection would consist of invited works inspired by Bob, his ideas and research, that reflect the breadth of his contributions over so many years.
This special collection would be coordinated with the mini-conference tribute being organized for the 2024 APS-DPP meeting and serve as the publication venue for contributions to that meeting.
Topics covered include, but are not limited to:
- Magnetohydrodynamics
- Plasmas
- Plasma instabilities
- Tokamaks
- Complex systems theory
- Stellarators
