Algorithms and Software for Open Quantum System Dynamics
Submission Deadline: June 30, 2024
This special issue will highlight recent progress in accurate and efficient simulations of realistic open quantum systems, and progress towards simulating many-body or high-dimensional open quantum systems. A common feature of these methods is that they are highly technical and therefore difficult to implement from scratch, so we would very much encourage papers describing (reliable and welldocumented) software packages that implement them, for publication in the new “Chemical Physics Software” section of JCP. Papers on state-of-the-art applications to interesting (chemical) physics problems are also welcome.
Topics covered include, but are not limited to:
- Numerical methods and algorithms for modelling equilibrium and nonequilibrium nonMarkovian open quantum systems in the presence of non-perturbative and/or anharmonic effects
- Benchmarking, error analysis, and bounds on performance of different methods, also including demonstrations of computational acceleration of algorithms/methods via efficient deployment on GPUs, emerging hardware (such as TPUs) or interfaces with enabling computational techniques (e.g. AI, ML)
- “Landmark” results in simulating large or particularly challenging examples, including cases where environmental information provides new insight into complex dissipative phenomena
- Hybrid combinations of methods for the prediction and understanding of multiscale, multistage quantum processes in complex settings, such as correlated materials or biology
