Special Topic in Honor of Axel T. Brunger: Structural Biology
Professor Axel Brunger is a leader in structural biology and computational biophysics, known for integrating quantitative modeling with experimental approaches to reveal the molecular mechanisms underlying biological function. His research on synaptic vesicle fusion, SNARE machinery and associated proteins, has provided fundamental insights into neurotransmitter release. By integrating structural biology, biophysics, and computational modeling, his work exemplifies the power of quantitative, mechanistic approaches to study biological function.
This Special Topic will highlight advances in areas inspired by Professor Brunger’s scientific contributions, including but not limited to:
- Structural biology of membrane proteins and macromolecular complexes
- Mechanisms of membrane fusion and vesicle trafficking
- Synaptic transmission and neuronal biophysics
- Integrative structural biology (including cryo-EM, cryo-ET, X-ray crystallography, NMR, SAXS, FRET)
- Computational biophysics, molecular modeling, and structure refinement
- Conformational dynamics and energy landscapes of macromolecular machines
- Quantitative and mechanistic studies of cellular processes
- Emerging tools and methods for multiscale biophysical analysis
We particularly encourage submissions that provide forward-looking perspectives, synthesize emerging trends, or bridge structure, dynamics, and function across scales.
