Biomimetics of Biointerfaces
Submission Deadline: February 1, 2026Contribute to this Special Topic
Biointerphases is soliciting articles, reviews, and tutorials for publication in a Special Topic Collection focusing on the structure, chemistry and properties of biointerfaces and their biomimetics. The collection will include (1) methodological advances for quantitative and qualitative characterization of surfaces in animals, plants, and microorganisms; (2) biomimetic surface designs; and (3) bio-inspired materials.
Topics covered include, but are not limited to:
Topics will range from understanding the surface morphology and chemistry of functional surfaces and tissue in animals, plants, and microorganisms using advanced spectroscopy and microscopy to the synthesis of new functional materials and surfaces inspired by Nature:
- Advancements of techniques and methods studying surface chemistry and morphology in biological systems
- Bio-adhesion by glues, adhesive surfaces and attachment devices
- Anti-adhesive surfaces
- Studies of biological surfaces with enhanced or reduced friction
- Bio-inspired non-fouling and liquid repelling surfaces
- Biological electronics
- Biomimetic designs of engineering and biomedical surfaces
- Review articles on the above topics
