Thin-film lithium niobate for integrated photonics
The recent development of thin film lithium niobate on insulator has enabled a broad range of applications in integrated photonics, including but not limited to quantum optics, high speed modulators, datacom applications, supercontinuum generation, optical frequency comb generation etc… The broad transparency window of the LN material, its unique nonlinear and electro optic properties as well as the capability to harness the low loss on this platform have been key to these applications and led to the creation of compact and efficient chip-based devices with unprecedented performance. This special topic will cover the latest fabrication developments including hybrid / heterogeneous material integration, as well as the new technological advances afforded by dispersion engineering and periodic poling in nanophotonic structures, and will outline the progress regarding linear and nonlinear devices that have been produced on this new platform.
Topics covered include, but are not limited to:
- LN based integrated E/O modulators
- Quantum optics applications
- High Q LNOI microcavities
- Optical frequency combs and micro-combs
- Periodically poled PPLN nanophotonic structures
- Electro-optic combs
- Hybrid material integration with LN and micro-transfer printing
- Mid-IR LNOI devices
- LN on sapphire
- Low loss LNOI chip-based waveguides
- Dispersion engineering in LNOI structures
- Harmonic generation in LNOI structures
- Acousto-optic LNOI devices
