AI and Ethics in Intro Physics

Submission Deadline: June 1, 2026Contribute to this Special Topic

Decorative ImageThe Physics Teacher is pleased to announce a special collection on the rapidly evolving intersection of artificial intelligence and ethics in the introductory physics classroom. As AI tools become increasingly accessible to both students and the instructors, new questions—and opportunities—emerge. If you have done work in this area and have something to share with your teacher colleagues, we invite you to submit a manuscript to The Physics Teacher by June 1, 2026 to be considered for publication in a special collection: “AI and Ethics in Introductory Physics.” For more information, please see the Call for Papers.

Manuscripts should center on issues relevant to introductory physics instruction. We invite a broad range of perspectives, including but not limited to:

  • Ethical considerations surrounding AI use by students and faculty
  • Guidance for incorporating AI tools into teaching and assessment
  • Classroom policies related to homework, grading, and testing in an AI-rich environment
  • Impacts of AI on teaching careers and course design
  • Energy-use ethics and other societal implications of AI
  • Case studies, commentary, and practical strategies from classroom experience
  • Issues with discrimination and bias in using AI in the classroom
