Relativistic Plasma in Supercritical Electromagnetic Fields

Submission Deadline: June 30, 2023

For plasmas in which the electromagnetic fields exceed a critical field strength, as defined by an invariant parameter in quantum electrodynamics, prolific production of high energy photons, electrons and positrons can cause complex new plasma interactions to occur. The physics of such plasmas in strong fields is critical to future high-intensity laser driven relativistic plasma physics, relativistic intense beam-beam interactions and is also relevant to early universe conditions, extreme astrophysical objects such as neutron star atmospheres and black hole environments. Papers for this Special Topic should relate to the physics of these environments.

Topics covered include, but are not limited to:

  • Ultrahigh-intensity lasers
  • Extreme astrophysics
  • Quantum electrodynamic (QED) strong fields of intense, relativistic particle beams
  • Relativistic plasma physics with QED strong fields

Submission Instructions

Manuscripts considered for publication in the Physics of Plasmas are expected to meet the journal’s standard of acceptance: to report on original and timely results that significantly advance understanding in observational, computational, and theoretical plasma physics.

Manuscripts submitted for consideration in this Special Topic must meet the same criteria and will undergo the journal’s standard peer-review process. The Editorial Team of the Physics of Plasmas will issue final decisions on the submitted manuscripts. Manuscripts will publish in an issue after acceptance and collected together with a Preface prepared by the Guest Editors to highlight this important and timely area. For more information, please visit the journal’s editorial policies.

Manuscripts must be submitted through the journal’s online submission system (PXP). Please select the Special Topic “Relativistic Plasma in Supercritical Electromagnetic Fields” to submit your manuscript for consideration in this Special Topic.

Submissions to this Special Topic are open to invited and contributed researchers. Please select “YES-INVITED” during the submission process only if you have been personally invited to submit from the Guest Editors.
