Fluids Meet Solids

Submission Deadline: May 30, 2022

In this special issue, we focus on phenomena whose understanding requires consideration of both the solid and fluid phase. This comprises problems in which one needs to study both phases concomitantly (as in phase equilibria, including the calculation of solubilities), or problems that focus on the structure, thermodynamics or kinetics of fluid-solid interfaces (including nanofluidics). For this special issue, papers from experiment, simulation, or theory in which one needs to consider the two phases are welcome.

Topics covered include, but are not limited to:

  • Solid-fluid phase equilibria
  • Multicomponent systems (solubility of solids, eutectics, hydrates, … )
  • Force fields for the simultaneous modeling of solids and fluids
  • Thermodynamics and structure of the fluid-solid interface, including the effects of curvature
  • Surface melting and freezing Solid-liquid interface kinetics (e.g. crystal growth, dendritic growth, nucleation)
  • Solid-fluid phase equilibria and interfaces under confinement
  • Wetting, flow and alignment of complex fluids near structured solids
  • Nanofluidics
