Excitons: Energetics and Spatio-temporal Dynamics

Submission Deadline: September 30, 2020View Collection

Excitons play key roles in material interactions with light. Information on their binding energies, spatial extents, and temporal dynamics is important for understanding natural light harvesting processes. They also have significant implications for improving solar energy conversion/light emitting devices and for developing optoelectronic materials and sensors. We encourage papers reporting new results on the energetics and spatio-temporal dynamics of the various types of excitons encountered in these applications through ab initio calculations, coarse-grained modeling, nonlinear/single molecule spectroscopy, or nanoscale imaging.

Topics covered include, but are not limited to:

  • General theory and/or spectroscopy of excitons
  • Electronic structure calculation of excitonic properties
  • Theory and simulation of exciton dynamics at various length and time scales
  • Nonlinear spectroscopy of excitons
  • Single molecule spectroscopy and imaging of excitons
  • New computational methods for characterizing the structure and dynamics of excitons
  • New spectroscopic methods to decipher spatio-temporal dynamics of excitons
  • Applications of excitons to sensing, solar light harvesting, lasing, or information processing
