Professor Andrzej Jeżowski. To the 75th birthday

Submission Deadline: February 28, 2025

This special issue celebrates the 75th birthday of Prof. Andrzej Jeżowski, an eminent expert in the study of thermal conductivity in solids, particularly cryocrystals and nanocomposites. Prof. Jeżowski is also a valued collaborator and dear friend of the B.Verkin Institute for Low Temperature Physics and Engineering of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine (Kharkiv), as well as a passionate advocate for Polish-Ukrainian scientific cooperation.

Prof. Jeżowski graduated in Physics from the University of Wrocław, Poland, in 1975. He earned his Ph.D. in Physics in 1983 at the Institute of Low Temperature and Structure Research of the Polish Academy of Sciences (INTiBS PAN) in Wrocław, where he also achieved his Habilitation in Physics in 1991. In 1998, the President of Poland conferred upon him the title of Professor of Physical Sciences. His entire professional journey has been closely tied to INTiBS PAN. Since 1985, he has held leadership roles within the institute, heading the Low Temperature and Superconductivity Group, then the Department, and later the Division. For over two decades, he guided these teams with distinction. From 2001 to 2010, Prof. Jeżowski served as Deputy Director for Scientific Affairs, and from 2011 to 2022, he held the position of Director of INTiBS PAN.

Beyond his work in Poland, Prof. Jeżowski has enriched the global scientific community as a visiting scientist at the University of Umeå in Sweden and on multiple occasions at the B. Verkin ILTPE of NASU in Kharkiv, Ukraine. His expertise has led to his election to advisory boards and scientific councils of numerous research institutes in Poland, as well as the International Institute of Refrigeration in Paris, France.

Prof. Jeżowski’s prolific academic contributions include co-authoring over 200 scientific papers and more than 100 conference presentations. His achievements have earned him numerous accolades, including awards from the Polish Academy of Sciences (1988, 1999), the Knight’s Cross of the Order of Polonia Restituta from the President of Poland in 2017, and the joint Scientific Award of the President of the Polish Academy of Sciences and the President of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine in 2019.

Prof. Jeżowski has also been a dedicated organizer of the International Conference on Cryocrystals and Quantum Crystals, hosting the event in various locations across Poland.

This special issue brings together original articles contributed by Prof. Jeżowski’s colleagues from institutes in Wrocław and Kharkiv. These articles highlight recent research findings and reviews, reflecting the continued impact and inspiration of Prof. Jeżowski’s work in the field of low-temperature physics.

Topics covered include, but are not limited to:

  • low temperatures physics
  • cryocrystals
  • superconductivity
  • magnetic and transport properties
  • topological matter
  • d- and f-electron compounds
  • carbon nanostructures
