Discover what a not-for-profit publisher can mean for you and your research. Expert editorial support, trusted peer review processes, and broader access are some of the potential benefits for your work. It’s also an investment in the scientific community and trust marker for those engaging with your research.
On A Mission
Science only moves forward when researchers are supported, connected, and empowered to build on what came before.
When you work with a society-based not-for-profit publisher, the value of your contribution extends beyond an individual article. Revenue is reinvested in publishing, research support, scientific programs, member societies, and initiatives that strengthen the communities in which researchers work.
As a not-for-profit publisher wholly owned by the American Institute of Physics (AIP), our priorities are rooted in a mission established nearly a century ago; to advance, promote, and serve the physical sciences for the benefit of humanity. For researchers who choose a society publisher, they can be assured they are partnering with an organization whose success is directly tied to the success of science.
Publish with Confidence Through Strong Research Integrity and Trust

Quality and trust are the foundation of scholarly publishing. And trust in science has never mattered more. The rise of AI tools, predatory publishing practices, and the increase in disinformation are all threats to science. As these threats evolve, researchers need assurance their work is being handled with rigor and the publishers they work with are invested in the integrity of the scientific record.
Every manuscript submitted to AIP Publishing is handled by experts and backed by a dedicated Research Integrity and Publication Ethics team focused on protecting the quality and credibility of the scholarly record. Our deep expertise, editorial stewardship, rigorous peer review, and research integrity safeguards demonstrate our commitment to credibility and trust. We’re continually strengthening our processes to respond to evolving challenges, including AI-enabled misconduct, paper mills, and other threats. We invest in the systems and partnerships needed to identify and mitigate potential issues, address concerns when they arise, and learn from emerging risks. We’re responsive to how the research landscape is changing and include clear guidance and policies to help researchers navigate emerging technologies. The result is a fair, transparent workflows that give your research the care it deserves.
When you submit to AIPP you’ll benefit from:
- Personalized experience made possible by our focused portfolio and dedicated editorial teams
- Infrastructure designed to simplify submission the process and reduce administrative burden
- Research integrity resources to help you navigate publication ethics with confidence
Helping Your Research Find A Global Audience
Greater access can mean more opportunities for your research to reach scientists beyond your immediate network or institution. AIP Publishing is working to expand the reach of trusted science through initiatives designed to broaden participation in published research and editorial leadership:
- Expanding access to published research: Open access journals and researcher-friendly green open access policies can help make trusted scientific research available to wider audiences around the world. Our open access content receives four times the views and twice the citations and shares than our subscription-based articles.
- Broadening participation in scholarly publishing: Inviting more authors from around the world into scholarly publishing broadens the range of research, experiences, and perspectives being shared.
- Increasing global representation in editorial leadership: Editors from different regions bring new perspectives and local knowledge of their research communities while building stronger connections with researchers worldwide.
- Helping research reach a wider audience: Together, broader author participation and more globally representative editorial leadership can help research find and serve audiences across institutions, regions, and communities.

How Your Publication Supports the Scientific Community
The impact of choosing a not-for-profit publisher extends beyond your own paper. When you publish with a society publisher, you’re participating in an ecosystem that reinvests in science and the people who make it possible. Through our parent organization AIP and its programs, our publishing revenue helps support scholarships, awards, outreach, historical preservation, and other initiatives that strengthen the physical sciences.
Here are just a few of the ways AIP Publishing is giving back to the community:
- TEAM-UP Together: Started in 2022, this initiative seeks to improve graduation outcomes for undergraduate students facing the starkest barriers in physics and astronomy. This program has awarded scholarships to 194 students across more than 100 schools and 18 academic departments. The program works to build more welcoming, supportive environments for future scientists.
- When federal funding cuts threatened member societies in 2025, AIP responded swiftly. Rapid Response Grants were implemented to protect programs for researchers and students.
- AIP funds historical research and archival preservation through our Grants-in-Aid and Grants to Archives programs. It organizes a dedicated conference series for early career historians with a focus on the physical sciences to connect the next generation of scholars to the living legacy of the field.
- AIP Publishing’s awards programs recognize researchers whose work is making an impact, creating greater visibility for their contributions, and helping early-career scientists build recognition within their fields.
A Publishing Model Built Around Science, Not Shareholders
Researchers should be able to understand what motivates the organizations entrusted with their work. That’s why AIP Publishing joined American Physical Society (APS) and IOP Publishing (IOPP) as a founding member of Purpose-Led Publishing. PLP is a coalition of not-for-profit society publishers committed to putting purpose before profit. Some of the core tenets of the coalition are to:
- Always reinvest 100% of their funds into science
- Publish only content that adds to scientific knowledge
- Never put profit over purpose.
That commitment translates into clear principles. Publish work that genuinely contributes to scientific knowledge, maintain reasonable terms, protect research integrity even when doing so comes at a cost, and reinvest publishing revenues into science.
Advance Your Research and the Scientific Community Behind It
Choosing where to publish is about more than finding a home for your manuscript. It’s a decision about who you trust with your research and how you want it to enter the world. Our not-for-profit society status allows us to prioritize rigorous standards, publish trusted science, provide broader access, and invest in the sciences. When you publish, review, or edit with us, you’re not simply contributing to a journal. You’re helping strengthen a scientific community built to support discovery now and for future generations.
