Renowned researcher’s lifelong dedication to renewable energy research and policy makes him an ideal fit to lead the publication in an exciting and ever-growing scientific landscape
MELVILLE, N.Y., Jan. 19, 2024 — AIP Publishing and the Journal of Renewable and Sustainable Energy (JRSE) are delighted to announce the appointment of Prof. Zhenhong Lin to the position of Editor-in-Chief.
Lin is a professor in the School of Future Technology at the South China University of Technology in Guangzhou, China and a Distinguished Researcher with the Guangdong Artificial Intelligence and Digital Economy Laboratory. Notably, he is the second editor-in-chief of an AIP Publishing publication to be based in China.
“I am honored to lead the Journal of Renewable and Sustainable Energy and truly humbled to join an AIP Publishing editor-in-chief team full of distinguished scholars,” said Lin.
Established in 2009, JRSE is an interdisciplinary journal exploring the physical sciences, engineering, and societal impacts of renewable and sustainable energy. It prides itself on its ability to publish quickly and respond with speed to the rapid-fire developments of this dramatically expanding field.
According to Lin, that expansion is indicative of unprecedented interest in new, sustainable methods of energy production — and the opportunity to fuel further development through groundbreaking research.
“The world has never been so motivated in transitioning to renewable and sustainable energy, and this means there are tremendous research opportunities in technology, infrastructure, behavior, and policy,” said Lin. “By working with the wonderful team of JRSE staff and editors, I look forward to leading JRSE to become the top choice for energy researchers.”
Lin received his B.E. and M.S. in automotive engineering from Beijing’s Tsinghua University and his Ph.D. and M.S. in transportation energy from University of California, Davis. The author of more than 100 technical articles on energy transition issues, he was a Distinguished Research Scientist at Oak Ridge National Laboratory, where he worked for 14 years prior to his current roles in Guangzhou.
Throughout his career, Lin has channeled his deep interest in large-scale issues like climate change, air quality, energy security, and social justice into research focused on helping humanity transition to the broad use of renewable and sustainable energy sources. He is among the world’s foremost researchers and thought leaders in the science behind — and policy surrounding — this increasingly important field and has received numerous committee appointments and awards recognizing his accomplishments.
“Dr. Lin is a brilliant mind and influential advocate who has contributed immensely to the field of renewable and sustainable energy,” said Dr. Penelope Lewis, Chief Publishing Officer for AIP Publishing. “His dedication to this arena of study is substantial, and AIP Publishing is excited to see where he will take the Journal of Renewable and Sustainable Energy as its new Editor-in-Chief.”
“We’re also excited about Dr. Lin being our second China-based editor-in-chief,” she added. “As China’s contributions to the physical sciences continue to accelerate in scope and impact, Dr. Lin’s perspective and knowledge of the Chinese research landscape will be invaluable.”
ABOUT THE JOURNAL OF RENEWABLE AND SUSTAINABLE ENERGY
The Journal of Renewable and Sustainable Energy is an interdisciplinary journal covering specific areas of renewable and sustainable energy relevant to the physical science and engineering communities. The journal has a strong focus on integration of disciplines for renewable power technologies at global scales that have the potential to mitigate abrupt climate change. Since volume 12, the journal has increasingly focused on discoveries related to weather-dependent renewable generation (solar and wind).
