Melville, NY — March 25, 2026 — AIP Publishing is pleased to announce that the first articles from APL Engineering Physics are now available online, marking the official launch of the newest APL-branded journal.
APL Engineering Physics is a gold open access journal dedicated to publishing impactful, interdisciplinary research that applies the principles of physics to address complex engineering challenges and advance emerging technologies. The journal provides a forum for work at the intersection of fundamental physics and engineering innovation, spanning areas such as photonics, quantum technologies, nanoscience, advanced materials, robotics, and biomedical devices.
The journal is led by founding Editor-in-Chief Ranjan Singh, professor of electrical engineering at the University of Notre Dame and a pioneer in terahertz photonics, spintronics, and metamaterials. Under his leadership, APL Engineering Physics aims to highlight research that translates deep physical understanding into practical technologies.
“The publication of our first articles is an exciting milestone for APL Engineering Physics and the community it serves,” said Prof. Singh. “Engineering physics sits at the boundary between discovery and application, where fundamental insights into physical phenomena can directly shape transformative technologies. We look forward to providing a global platform for interdisciplinary research that pushes these boundaries.”
APL Engineering Physics expands the APL-branded portfolio by highlighting research where physics principles drive engineering innovation and technological advancement.
“APL Engineering Physics reflects our commitment to supporting emerging and interdisciplinary areas of applied physics research,” said Meredith LeMasurier, Chief Publishing Officer at AIP Publishing. “We are excited to see the first articles published and to provide a venue for researchers whose work bridges foundational physics and engineering solutions to real-world challenges.”
APL Engineering Physics is guided by an international editorial team of leading researchers reflecting the journal’s interdisciplinary scope: Prof. Ranjan Singh (University of Notre Dame), Prof. Christophe Couteau (University of Technology of Troyes), Prof. Jin-Tae Kim (Pohang University of Science and Technology), and Prof. Xiaojun Wu (Beihang University).
