Melville, NY, December 11, 2015 – AIP Publishing, one of the world’s leading not-for-profit scholarly publishers in the physical sciences, today announced the appointment of Alan Jeffrey Giacomin, Ph.D., P.E., P.Eng., Queen’s University at Kingston, Canada, as the new Editor-in-Chief of Physics of Fluids (PoF), effective January 1, 2016.

After earning his Ph.D. in Chemical Engineering at McGill University and serving on the faculty of Texas A&M University, Professor Giacomin moved to the University of Wisconsin-Madison, where he directed the Rheology Research Center for nearly 20 years and was a professor of Mechanical Engineering until 2013. Now at Queen’s University at Kingston, he is NSERC Tier 1 Canada Research Chair in Rheology, Professor of Chemical Engineering, of Engineering Chemistry, and of Mechanical and Materials Engineering.
Active in many professional societies, Professor Giacomin is the Former President of The Society of Rheology and a member of the Fluid Dynamics Division of the American Physical Society. His distinguished career also includes being named Professor of the French Academy of Sciences, and Honorary Associate Member of the Institute of Non-Newtonian Fluid Mechanics in Wales.
Professor Giacomin has published more than 100 refereed journal articles and for 15 years he has served as Associate Editor for Business for the Journal of Rheology. His current research interests include non-Newtonian fluid mechanics, rheometry, nonlinear viscoelasticity, large-amplitude oscillatory shear flow and polymer processing.
