Melville, NY, May 2, 2017 – Citation data from AIP Publishing journals is now freely available for access and reuse. AIP Publishing is pleased to support the Initiative for Open Citations (I4OC), a collaboration between publishers, researchers and organizations to promote the unrestricted availability of scholarly citation data.
There’s been increasing demand across scholarly publishing to make the reference data that links research articles freely available for access and reuse. Motivated by I4OC, publishers have been opening their reference data and today more than 40% of papers in Crossref have open citations. AIP Publishing’s participation will add metadata from over half a million articles to this growing data set.
Making citation data structured (machine readable), separable (independent of the article itself), and open will enhance the discoverability of research, further our knowledge of research and publication trends, and enable opportunities for new services to be built from this data.
