Melville, NY, January 11, 2019 – AIP Publishing (AIPP) a leading not-for-profit scholarly publisher in the physical sciences, today announced that Professor Jan Philip Solovej, University of Copenhagen, has taken the reigns as Editor-in-Chief of the Journal of Mathematical Physics (JMP), a peer-reviewed journal publishing original research and reviews that connect the application of mathematics to problems in physics.
“AIP Publishing is pleased that Jan Philip Solovej has agreed to take on the role of Editor-in-Chief of the Journal of Mathematical Physics, which he has served as an Associate Editor since 2013. When JMP launched in 1960, it was the first journal in the field of mathematical physics. We are confident that JMP will continue to be on the forefront of its field under his direction,” said Jason Wilde, Ph.D., AIPP’s Chief Publishing Officer. He added, “We want to take this opportunity to thank Bruno L. Z. Nachtergaele for his dedicated stewardship of JMP since 2006.”
Prof. Solovej commented, “I am honored to step up to become Editor-in-Chief of JMP, a journal that has published some of the best papers from outstanding mathematicians and physicists over the last 60 years, and I look forward to building on this distinguished legacy as quantum physics is sparking a revolution in science and technology.”
Prof. Solovej is currently Professor of Mathematics at the University of Copenhagen, and the Centre Leader of the Villum Centre of Excellence for the Mathematics of Quantum Theory (QMATH). His research focuses on mathematical understanding of quantum physics, specifically in the stability and structure of atoms, Bose and Fermi gases, and thermodynamic stability.
In addition to his faculty and QMATH positions, Prof. Solovej currently sits on the Board of the Independent Research Fund in Denmark and was elected to the Royal Danish Academy of Sciences and Letters in 2000. He was previously a faculty member at Princeton University, where he also earned his Ph.D. in 1989, and held various positions at the Erwin Schrödinger Institute, Université Paris (6 and Dauphine), Aarhus University, University of Toronto and University of Michigan. He has served on the editorial boards of the Journal of European Mathematical Society and the Journal of Spectral Theory.
The Journal of Mathematical Physics (ISSN: 0022-2488; E-ISSN: 1089-7658) publishes original research in all areas of mathematical physics, review articles on mathematical subjects relevant to physics, and special issues on topics of current interest to its community. Published articles focus on areas of research that illustrate the application of mathematics to problems in physics, the development of mathematical methods for such applications, and for the formulation of physical theories.
JMP is part of AIP Publishing’s portfolio which includes Applied Physics Letters, Journal of Applied Physics, AIP Conference Proceedings, and other community focused peer-reviewed journals, its flagship magazine Physics Today, and Scilight, a weekly publication highlighting the most interesting new research in the physical sciences. AIP Publishing partners with 10 scholarly societies, providing the full suite of publishing services, from manuscript submission to online hosting.
