AIP Publishing has announced the expansion of its partnership with the CLOCKSS digital archive to start preserving its wide library of digital books. The eBooks — a vital record of discovery, investigation, and exploration — will be preserved for posterity through inclusion in the program.
The agreement builds upon AIP Publishing’s existing partnership with CLOCKSS, through which the publisher’s array of journals are digitally preserved.
CLOCKSS, a collaboration between the world’s leading research libraries and academic publishers, is an independent non-profit that works to ensure the long-term survival of digital scholarly publications to benefit the greater global research community. With more than 300 participating libraries and 435 participating publishers, CLOCKSS has preserved more than 48.5 million journal articles, as well as 34,000 serial and 360,000 book titles.
“CLOCKSS has proven to be a dedicated partner in our efforts to ensure our publications are preserved in perpetuity,” said Penelope Lewis, AIP Publishing’s Chief Publishing Officer. “By expanding that partnership to include books that offer developments and key concepts across the physical sciences, we can provide researchers with a valuable, permanent glimpse into the rich history of the physical sciences.”
“Knowledge that takes generations to build can be lost in an instant or erode gradually and out of sight,” said Alicia Wise, Executive Director of CLOCKSS. “Content preserved in CLOCKSS can be retrieved intact after disruptions to inform future generations of researchers. We are proud to be entrusted with content published by AIPP on behalf of its authors and research community.”
