This position will be primarily responsible for selling AIP products to new and existing institutional customers including government, corporate, and academic libraries. The job entails building and maintaining relationships with customers and introducing AIP products to established clients and new prospects. The job requires managing a sales pipeline, including the tracking and following up on the leads, building quotations, sending proposals, as well as negotiating terms and conditions with customers. An Inside Sales Representative will interact closely with other members of the sales team and coordinate with sales support and order fulfillment staff. The Inside Sales Representative will help drive the effort to sell and renew our subscription base in the assigned territory. At its core, this is a “solution sell”, requiring the candidate to understand what clients’ information needs are, what they truly want to achieve through the acquisition of AIP content, and how AIP journals can meet those goals for them.
The Inside Sales position is a great place to start your career at AIP. The intention of this position is to provide a training ground for Inside Sales Representatives to take on their own larger territory and responsibilities within a few years.
Ensure the success of a select group of AIP Publishing journals. This includes working with journal editors to define editorial direction and develop content as well as performing research and analysis in support of strategic objectives. Monitor and analyze journal metrics and measure progress towards targets as well as coordinate editorial input to marketing efforts that will ensure increased journal visibility. Collaborate closely with Marketing to identify and align with the target audience and refine the marketing message to that audience. Gather and prioritize product and customer requirements through market research. This requires working closely with academic editors and researchers in the community, representing the journal to all external stakeholders.
This position also includes responsibility for ensuring that development efforts support the overall strategies and goals of the Publisher’s Office and for working with internal business units to align activities to strategic objectives. Candidate performance will be measured against each product’s success using various metrics.
Meet or exceed sales goals in assigned publications by promoting and selling online and print advertising through professional sales techniques, product knowledge and long-term customer/client relationships.
- Meet or exceed monthly, quarterly and annual sales targets
- Make the appropriate number of sales calls on new prospects vs. customers to grow ad revenues
- Prepare verbal and written advertising presentations outlinging features and explaining the benefits of advertising in our online journals
- Create advertising proposals and maintain customer profiles in Salesforce
- Sell print and online advertising in all assigned publications, but concentrate on online advertising sales
- Assist in development of sales tools and promotional materials
- Generate print and electronic sales letters and written follow-up by email
- Work with and coordinate sales activties with Marketing & Sales team and Publisher's Office
- Attend and participate in sales meetings, sales training and trade shows, as necessary
Work under the supervision of the Director, Editorial Development to provide support for the AIP publishing program. Responsibilities may include contributing to development and outreach initiatives with market research/lead generation; web research on potential authors; monitoring and reporting success of targeting invitations/commissioning activities; and proof reading promotional content.
Maintain financial information and support the accounting operations of AIP Publishing (“AIPP”). Assist with the monthly closing process, financial analysis, forecasting, planning and budgeting. Maintain General Ledger accounts. Responsible for revenue recognition and analysis, balance sheet integrity and preparation of monthly balance sheet reconciliations, and monitoring internal controls and policies and procedures. Prepare and process journal entries for posting. Provide ad hoc reports as needed.
Assist in the development of strategic sales plans for AIP Publishing LLC, provide coaching and development to sales staff and monitor actual sales performance against sales targets and objectives. This person will have the drive and motivation to identify and develop sales opportunities with new and existing customers in his or her region of the globe. He or she will be a motivated, energetic individual who will focus on developing and maintaining healthy, positive customer and consortium relationships, while providing vital customer feedback to internal AIP Publishing LLC departments. With an impressive track record of delivering sales growth, the successful candidate will also be responsible for influencing and managing sales strategy, working cooperatively with the Marketing department to plan campaigns, attend exhibits, visit customer sites and coordinate support activities with Customer Service staff.

Assist the Sales Support Manager and Sales Team with the administration of sales. Prepare license agreements and monitor compliance with license guidelines. Provide support and contribute to the overall work and responsibilities of the Institutional Sales Department.
